Hagan Congratulates Raleigh Leader Honored as a White House "Champion of Change"

U.S. Senator Kay Hagan today congratulated Anita Brown-Graham, the director of the Institute for Emerging Issues (IEI) at NC State University, who was honored today at the White House as an Open Government and Civic Hacking "Champion of Change." Anita's work at IEI is focused on bringing together leaders in business, higher education and government to address energy and fiscal modernization issues issues in a comprehensive, long-term way.

"Anita Brown-Graham has compiled a distinguished career in higher education and her work has helped foster growth and innovation in North Carolina" said Hagan. "She is one of many leaders in North Carolina focused on prosperity for our state, and I am pleased that the White House has recognized her contributions."

At IEI, Anita has led the development of the Emerging Issues Commons, a first of its kind civic engagement tool. Emerging Issues Commons is both a physical space and an online hub that stands to transform how citizens across the state connect with each other, access information, and take action in the decades to come. Anita is a William C. Friday Fellow, American Marshall Fellow, and an Eisenhower Fellow.

The White House Champions of Change program is part of President Obama's Winning the Future Initiative. This program allows the White House to acknowledge individuals, businesses and organizations whose work and accomplishments have a positive impact on our communities.
