U.S. Rep. Ann Kirkpatrick, D-Ariz., is pleased to announce that Northern Arizona University will receive a $600,000 award from the National Science Foundation for a STEM project titled "Transfers to Graduates in Engineering, Math and Science."

According to the foundation's Division of Undergraduate Education, this award "provides scholarships to support academically talented students with demonstrated financial need in attaining baccalaureate degrees in the College of Engineering, Forestry and Natural Sciences at Northern Arizona University after transfer from community and tribal colleges."

The NSA award aims to strengthen relationships between NAU and surrounding community and tribal colleges and to tap a diverse and talented pool of students from the region.

"Our district and our state need a STEM-trained workforce to be competitive in the 21st century," Kirkpatrick said. "Projects like this make a difference, and they encourage students from our community colleges and tribal colleges to work hard and build a foundation for their future."
