BRADLEY SUPPORTS BORDER SECURITY REFORM
Bill would strengthen America's borders, better protect our homeland
February 10, 2005

(Washington, D.C.) - First District Congressman Jeb Bradley voted today for H.R. 418, the REAL ID Act of 2005, which passed the U.S. House of Representatives by a vote of 261 to 161. The legislation, which Bradley cosponsored, seeks to prevent another 9/11-type terrorist attack on American soil by deterring terrorist travel. The legislation addresses some of the vulnerabilities found in the 9/11 Commission report, particularly the policies of some states to issue drivers' licenses to illegal aliens.

"Nineteen of the 9/11 hijackers had multiple licenses and state I.D. cards which enabled them to board the four airplanes and attack our nation. We must ensure that lax standards and loopholes in the system do not exist," stated Bradley. "This legislation implements common sense reforms to strengthen the security of our borders and asylum laws, helping to prevent terrorist travel and make our country safer."
