U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer (D-CA) issued the following statement today on the Senate's bipartisan passage of S. 744, the Border Security, Economic Opportunity, and Immigration Modernization Act:

"As the daughter and granddaughter of immigrants, I am so pleased that the Senate passed comprehensive immigration reform that includes a path to citizenship.

"California will benefit from this bill when 2.8 million hard-working immigrants -- including DREAMers -- are able to come out of the shadows and fully contribute to the state and the country they love. This bill will create 25,000 new jobs in California each year as these workers open bank accounts, buy homes, start businesses and enhance our communities.

"Our country is ready and waiting for reform. I urge House Republicans not to block progress on legislation that will increase our Gross Domestic Product, reduce the federal deficit and create new opportunities that will benefit our nation.

"America has always been a nation of immigrants, and we have proven that opening our hearts and welcoming immigrants is what helps to make us the greatest country in the world."
