Congressman Kennedy Statement on SCOTUS DOMA/Prop 8 Rulings

Statement

Date: June 26, 2013
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Joe Kennedy released the following statement today in response to the Supreme Court's rulings in United States v. Windsor and Hollingsworth v. Perry.

"Today is a victory for the men and women who carried the fight for marriage equality on their shoulders for decades, when public opinion was not on their side. It is a victory for the hundreds of thousands of families who have always deserved a country that recognizes them. And it is a victory for their sons and daughters -- for all of our sons and daughters -- who will grow up in world where their government can't say that someone's family doesn't count.

"But the battle is far from over. The promise of equal protection and equal recognition still fails to reach Americans in 37 states across our nation. As we celebrate the right of California citizens to love and marry who they choose, we recommit ourselves to the day when equality will no longer know borders, restrictions, or limitations of any kind."
