Blumenthal Statement On Supreme Court's Review Of NLRB, CFPB Appointments

oday, U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) issued the following statement after the U.S. Supreme Court's decision to take up a case to decide whether President Barack Obama's recess appointments to the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) were constitutional.

The case could have important implications for Richard Cordray, the director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), who was appointed on the same day and in the same manner as three members of the NLRB.

"I am pleased the Supreme Court has decided to review a ruling of highly dubious merit, overturning decades of sound precedent and undermining key protections for consumers and workers. The ruling severely undercuts essential agencies like the NLRB and the CFPB.

"I look forward to the high court's decision in this case, and I remain convinced that the appointments in question did not violate our government's long-established system of checks and balances."
