HATCH TAPPED FOR HIGH-TECH TASK FORCE

Sen. Orrin G. Hatch (R-Utah) today announced that he has been appointed by Majority Leader Bill Frist (R-Tenn.) to the Senate Republican High Tech Task Force for the 109th Congress.

"I'm very excited to be serving on the High Tech Task Force," said Hatch. "We have a tremendous high technology industry in Utah and this task force will help to shape policy on some of the most important issues facing that industry.

"This will be an opportunity to explore better ways to bring high technology to under-served areas of Utah," Hatch said. "A big part of dealing with high technology is making it more accessible for everyday Americans."

The Task Force includes 14 Republican Senators and will help form legislation on a wide variety of issues that affect high technology industries, including intellectual property, taxes, research, and consumer affairs.

"I worked with quite a few members of the Task Force on the recently-enacted class action reform legislation," said Hatch. "It is a very knowledgeable group, which includes my colleague and friend Sen. Bob Bennett (R-Utah). I look forward to working with the Task Force to help make high technology more accessible to rural Utahns and all Americans."
