Congressman Williams Responds to the IRS's $70M in Employee Bonuses

Today, U.S. Congressman Roger Williams released the following statement upon news that the IRS is poised to pay $70 million in employee bonuses, despite the White House directive for all agencies to cancel discretionary spending -- specifically bonuses -- due to budget cuts.

"Talk about a rogue agency. From the targeting of conservative groups to extravagant employee conferences totaling $50 million, now to $70 million for union bonuses at an out-of-control agency, it's no wonder Americans don't trust the government. The IRS has never been popular with the American public, but this is a new low.

"The arrogance of an agency to dismiss orders from the White House is astounding. The IRS will side with President Obama but apparently won't take his orders. I guess the IRS considers itself bigger than the White House.

"This agency has proven time and again that it is not able to manage what it is tasked to do. Americans need to know their taxpayer dollars are being protected -- not subject to this constant waste, fraud and abuse. When will this administration get serious about the IRS's discreditable actions?"
