Ros-Lehtinen Leads Bipartisan Congressional Delegation to UAE and Afghanistan

Statement

Date: May 26, 2013
Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL), Chairman of the Middle East and North Africa Subcommittee led a bipartisan Congressional delegation comprised of Reps. Michael Burgess (R-TX), Joseph Kennedy (D-MA), Blake Farenthold (R-TX), and Ami Bera (D-CA) to United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Afghanistan. Statement by Ros-Lehtinen:

"The UAE continues to be one of our strongest and important allies in the Middle East. Even with tensions high in the region, the UAE remains a steadfast U.S. partner that plays an important role to combat terrorism, promotes democratic values, and protects our national security.

"I commend the UAE for being proactive and leading the effort to decrease business dealings with Tehran and supporting efforts to sanction the Iranian regime. The UAE has also made significant progress aimed at cracking down on the ability for its territories to be used as a transshipment point for sensitive articles to be sent to Iran.

"We must continue to strengthen the common bonds of our bilateral relationship and work together to achieve peace and stability in the region."
