Honoring Troops, Veterans on Memorial Day

Statement

Date: May 24, 2013
Location: Washington, DC

As families and communities across America celebrate Memorial Day on Monday, May 27th, Congressman Hall released the following statement:

"This Memorial Day weekend we honor all our servicemen and women who have fought and sacrificed for our country throughout our Nation's history -- and all those who are fighting today both at home and abroad. The men and women who have worked in our defense have done so in support of our nation's greatest gift: freedom.

"It is right that we should show our appreciation for their courage and sacrifice through remembrance, and by ensuring our soldiers and veterans receive they support they need in training, equipment, and personal financial security.

"On May 22nd, I was pleased to speak at a press conference on behalf of H.Res. 231, a resolution which would establish a Select Committee on POW/MIA Affairs to investigate all unresolved POW and MIA cases. As an original co-sponsor of this resolution, I believe that every one of the 83,000 missing American military personnel from military conflicts since World War II deserve our commitment to identifying, locating, and returning their remains home.

"This past week I also voted in favor of three bills that support our nation's veterans: H.R. 1412, Improving Job Opportunities for Veterans Act of 2013, H.R. 324, To grant the Congressional Gold Medal, collectively, to the First Special Service Force, in recognition of its superior service during World War II; and H.R. 1344, Helping Heroes Fly Act of 2013.

"I am honored to represent the Fourth District, which has one of the largest veterans' populations in the country, and I will continue to support our troops and veterans in Washington as we all work together to keep America safe and strong.

"History has shown that there can be no peace in the world without strength. A strong defense is our best offense, but our greatest weapon is the power of prayer. God bless this country, and may God bless the men and women who defend it."
