Maloney Statement on FDA Decision to Allow Plan B to All Women Over Age 15

Statement

Date: May 1, 2013
Location: Washington, DC

Rep. Carolyn B. Maloney (D-NY) issued the following statement on the FDA's decision to allow emergency contraception without a prescription to all women over the age of 15:

"The FDA's announcement to allow women ages 15 and up to access emergency contraception without a prescription is a step in the right direction. However, as Judge Korman ruled last month, there is no scientific justification for imposing any barriers on women's access to emergency contraception. Unfortunately, the FDA decision still leaves several barriers in place that will limit women's health choices. I hope the Administration will ultimately decide to follow Judge Korman's order and make emergency contraception available to all women without a prescription."
