McHugh: President's Request of $52.5 Million Keeps Champlain Border Crossing on Track
February 9, 2005

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Champlain-Lacolle Border Crossing scored a huge victory in the President's Fiscal Year 2006 budget, which included $52,510,000 in funding to complete the project. Rep. John M. McHugh (R-NY), a longtime supporter of the border crossing, today commended the President's support in the following statement:

"I am thrilled that the President has included $52.51 million for Champlain in the FY 2006 budget request, bringing the total U.S. commitment for the project to more than $80 million," said McHugh. "This further underscores the Administration's commitment to strengthening our borders, while at the same time facilitating commerce with our largest trading partner.

"This is a very exciting time for all of us who have worked so hard to see this project move from vision to reality, as these funds should allow us to stay on track for completion in 2008. As the border crossing continues to move from the development into the construction phase, I am committed to shepherding this funding request through Congress in the annual appropriations process," McHugh concluded.

Final designs for the border crossing have been presented to the community, and a groundbreaking is expected to take place sometime this spring.
