Congressman Gibson Announces Major Federal Disaster Award to Delaware County for Irene/Lee Damage

Congressman Chris Gibson (NY-19) announced that a major federal disaster award was made today by the Economic Development Administration to the Delaware County Industrial Development Agency (IDA). The $3.8 million award will fund the purchase and preparation of a new flood resistant, shovel ready manufacturing site for Amphenol Aerospace & Industrial in Delaware County, which suffered severe damage by flooding and torrential rains from Tropical Storm Lee. Additionally, the site will be able to be used by other businesses in the future.

"As every local resident knows, our area suffered tremendous devastation as a result of the severe flooding following Hurricane Irene and Tropical Storm Lee. Since August 2011, it has been the priority of my office to ensure that our communities, small businesses, and families have the resources they need to fully recover. Without a doubt, we have made progress, but we still have work to do and today's award announcement will help in this regard," said Congressman Gibson. "Amphenol, a major employer in Delaware County, suffered significant damage after Irene and Lee, which was five years after the facility had flooded in 2006. With over 1,000 employees and 85 years of history in Delaware County, it was essential that we kept Amphenol in the area. It was truly a team effort, with the company and local, state, and federal officials working together to achieve a positive outcome. I was proud to be a partner and strong supporter of that effort, and I look forward to seeing the completion of this project and the area's growth in the future."

The money will assist Amphenol in paying for the costs for acquisition of the new site, the construction of the building, extension of a natural gas line to both the existing facility and the new plant and construction of a levee around the existing facility. The federal award was for $3,810,412, out of a total project cost of $4,763,015.
