Rep. Mike Honda Joins Democratic Whip Hoyer and Democratic Colleagues to Unveil New "Make It In America" Legislative Priorities

Silicon Valley Rep. Mike Honda (D-San Jose) joined fellow House Democrats today to unveil new Make It In America priorities for the 113 th Congress. Make It In America is a comprehensive jobs plan aimed at revitalizing our manufacturing sector and helping it create high-skill, high-wage jobs that won't be outsourced.

"The top priority of this Congress should be to pass legislation that encourages innovation and promotes advanced manufacturing in the United States. By doing so, we can create good-paying American jobs," said Rep. Honda. "I am proud that my Market Based Manufacturing Incentives Act is part of the Make It In America platform. My bill is inspired by the ingenuity and entrepreneurial spirit of Silicon Valley, where the manufacturing sector makes up 20 percent of the workforce, which is twice the national average."

The Market Based Manufacturing Incentives Act (H.R. 615) creates a new consumer tax credit for the purchase of groundbreaking products that are born and manufactured in the United States. By leveraging one of the most important inherent advantages of the United States, our consumer market that is unmatched in the world, this proposal will enable domestically made products to be more competitive against imported goods. This bill supports emerging technologies and manufacturers and rewards companies that create jobs in the United States.

The new Make It In America priorities are focused on making progress in four key areas: developing a national manufacturing strategy, increasing manufacturing exports, encouraging businesses to bring innovation and jobs back home, and investing in training and securing the skilled workforce needed to support manufacturing in the twenty-first century.

The four Make It In America core priorities announced today were developed after hearing from leaders in business and labor about the policies that would make the biggest difference in helping businesses and workers make it in America. These are policies that have drawn support from Americans across the political spectrum. Over the coming weeks, House Democrats will be introducing additional Make It In America bills in these four areas and are calling on Republicans to work together to pass them swiftly into law.
