Location: Washington, DC

On Tuesday, April 9, 2013, Congressman Robert C. "Bobby" Scott, a senior member of the House Committee on Education and the Workforce, will be joined by New York Times best-selling author and financial expert Suze Orman for a briefing and discussion on solutions to the looming student loan debt crisis.

"Higher education is the key to unlocking a brighter financial future," said Rep. Scott. "Unfortunately, the cost of an education from a four-year public university has been rising much faster than other sectors of the economy -- even outpacing the rise in health care costs. This trend is forcing many more students and families to rely more and more on student loans to cover the cost of attending college. An increasing amount of student debt and a weak employment climate has led to far more recent college graduates finding themselves in an untenable financial situation. This problem has a disparate impact on students of color. I am looking forward to hearing Suze Orman's thoughts on this important issue and her advice on how better financial literacy can decrease rates of default, saving many young people from financial ruin."
