Rep. Richmond Responds to TSA's Announcement on Expedited Screening for Wounded Warriors

Today, Congressman Cedric Richmond (LA-02) released the following statement in response to an announcement by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) that it would begin to expedite the screening process to alleviate the burden of excessive and unnecessary screening procedures for wounded service men and women:

"Less than two weeks ago, I urged TSA Administrator John Pistole to include wounded warriors in the PreCheck program so I am extremely pleased with TSA's announcement today. This country has a duty to honor its veterans and active duty service men and women, especially the wounded and disabled," said Congressman Cedric Richmond (LA-02). "Expanding the PreCheck program will offer a measure of relief to our wounded warriors and ensure that they are treated with respect and dignity while traveling. Moving forward, I urge my colleagues in Congress to support The Helping Heroes Fly Act, which I introduced last week with Rep. Gabbard, to ensure that this policy will remain in place permanently."

On March 22, 2013, Rep. Richmond (LA-02), ranking member on the Committee on Homeland Security's Transportation Security Subcommittee and Rep. Gabbard (HI-02), a member of the Committee on Homeland Security introduced H.R. 1344, The Helping Heroes Fly Act, which requires TSA to develop and implement protocols to expedite the screening process for our nation's injured and disabled heroes and to report to Congress on the progress it has made.
