Rep. Rohrabacher Statement on the State of the Union Address

Statement

Rep. Dana Rohrabacher (R-CA) released the following statement in reaction to the President's State of the Union address:

"The president demonstrated great oratorical skill, however, his proposals were misguided and will not take our country out of harm's way economically.

"As the country approaches a $17 trillion deficit, buttressed by the Obama administration adding more than a trillion dollars in debt each year of his first term, the president continues to have a tin ear on any meaningful, necessary spending cuts. President Obama's policies of taxing and spending our way to prosperity are untenable and counterproductive. Instead of providing any areas where government spending can be reduced, he threw several new spending proposals on the table.

"The most unsettling part of this speech, was the president's veiled political positioning, juxtaposing false alternatives as if Republicans were opposed to bipartisan cooperation, when he has been the least compromising and least engaged president in recent history.

"The president lived up to his reputation as "Campaigner-in- Chief' when his speech devolved into a repetitive chant on the issue of gun control. He turned a State of the Union speech into a political rally which undermines the dignity and decorum expected in a State of the Union address."
