Senator William "Mo" Cowan, today applauded the confirmation of Chuck Hagel to be the next U.S. Secretary of Defense. The United States Senate confirmed Hagel by a vote of 58 to 41.

"Chuck Hagel is a dedicated public servant who always put his country first both during his years in the military and in the United States Senate. He is a decorated veteran who knows firsthand the cost of war. He is the right person to lead our brave men and women in uniform and will strengthen our national security at home and abroad," said Senator William "Mo" Cowan. "I had the chance to speak with Chuck Hagel about the important issues facing Massachusetts, and he impressed me with his understanding of the importance of our military bases, our defense industry and our cyber research facilities. The recent news of cyber attacks on U.S. companies illustrates the great importance of the research being done in Massachusetts. I look forward to working with him as our next Secretary of Defense."
