Senator Blunt: Halligan's Liberal Record Of Judicial Activism Is Too Extreme For Federal Appeals Court

In light of President Barack Obama's decision to re-nominate Caitlin Halligan to the U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia, U.S. Senator Roy Blunt (Mo.) reaffirmed his decision to strongly oppose her nomination once again by voting no on cloture this week.

In December 2011, Halligan's nomination was blocked by the Senate due to her extreme positions on important issues, including her hostility toward prosecuting suspected terrorists, defending gun owners' rights, and permitting pro-life Americans to assemble and protest.

"Caitlin Halligan's well-documented record of judicial activism and her extreme positions on a number of critical issues facing America make me seriously question her ability to impartially apply the law and uphold the Constitution.

"The D.C. Circuit plays an important role as a check against the Executive Branch by directly reviewing the decisions and rulemakings of many federal agencies. Given Caitlin Halligan's liberal views and history of activism, I strongly question her ability to apply the law fairly and objectively, and I will once again vote against her nomination."
