LoBiondo: "South Jersey Has Seen This Movie Before"

Statement

U.S. Congressman Frank A. LoBiondo (NJ-02) tonight issued the following statement after President Obama delivered his State of the Union Address to the nation:

"While President Obama continues to pay lip-service to economic growth and reducing our unprecedented debt, his actions clearly demonstrate a policy focus elsewhere. Regrettably, South Jersey has seen this movie before. Until the President recognizes and responds to what really weighs on the minds of individuals and families across the country -- unacceptably high unemployment, rising gas prices, burdensome debt passed to our children and grandchildren - the American people can only expect more of the same.

"I was encouraged, however, to hear that greater numbers of our men and women serving in Afghanistan will be returning home. Their selfless bravery and actions in defense of our nation after September 11, 2001 has dismantled the strongholds of Al Qaeda and brought members of its senior leadership, including Osama bin Laden, to justice. With their return, it is the responsibility of Congress and the Obama Administration to provide them and their fellow veterans the essential readjustment services, quality mental and physical healthcare, job opportunities and support they earned and deserve. I stand ready to work with the President and my colleagues in providing for our active duty military, our veterans and their families.

"Unfortunately, President Obama signaled his intent to pursue a path of confrontation rather than cooperation with Congress on the key issues facing our nation. An agenda further built around executive orders and unconstitutional appointments will be a missed opportunity to find common ground on tax reform, deficit reduction, energy independence, immigration policy and national security. Collaboration and cooperation through the legislative process is a central pillar of our Constitution, yet viewed as an obstacle to be circumvented by the Obama Administration. It should not and does not have to be this way."
