Congressman Jared Huffman issued this statement in response to the US Postal Service's announcement that Saturday deliveries would be terminated effective August, 2013, in a cost-cutting effort:
"Reforming the USPS to be more competitive and efficient in the 21st century is critical, but the move to end Saturday mail delivery is draconian, and will cause long-lasting harm to small businesses, rural communities, and our seniors. Congress can start the modernization process by eliminating the USPS's requirement to prepay retiree health benefits--a burden placed on no other federal agency."
