Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today received a 97 percent on The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) 2012 National Environmental Scorecard. The Memphis Congressman's lifetime score is 95 percent.

"It is an honor to be recognized by the League of Conservation Voters for my record on the environment," said Congressman Cohen. "If we are going to improve the air we breathe, the water we drink and preserve our environment for future generations, we must treat our planet with the care it deserves. We must combat the pollution that destroys our lungs and ruins our planet. Many great benefits could come from our efforts to maintain clean water and air. They will enable us to create alternative sources of energy that will reduce our dependence on foreign oil, lower energy costs for American families and small businesses, and establish a clean energy economy that will help create green jobs across the country."

LCV is a national non-profit organization that works to turn environmental values into national priorities. To secure the environmental future of our planet, LCV advocates for sound environmental policies, elects pro-environment candidates who will adopt and implement such policies, and provides state LCVs with the resources and tools to accomplish and sustain their mission.

The LCV family of organizations includes LCV, LCV Action Fund, LCV Victory Fund, and LCV Education Fund -- as well as more than 30 state LCV partners around the country. For over 40 years, the National Environmental Scorecard issued by LCV has been the nationally accepted yardstick used to rate members of Congress on environmental, public health and energy issues.
