Senator Jon Tester today released the following statement in honor of the 40th anniversary of the U.S. Supreme Court's decision establishing the constitutional right of women to make their own private health care decisions in Roe v. Wade:

"Roe v. Wade affirmed a woman's right to privacy, and today we celebrate this landmark victory protecting constitutional freedoms. Women should always be able to make their own private health care decisions, and I will fight to defend these rights and freedoms for our future generations."

The 1973 Roe v. Wade decision made abortion legal based upon the due process clause of the U.S. Constitution's 14th Amendment.
