Statement

Date: Dec. 20, 2012
Location: Columbia, SC

Governor Nikki Haley asks that citizens across South Carolina join the Haley Family in observing a moment of silence on Friday, December 21, at 9:30 AM in honor and memory of the victims of last week's shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in the Town of Newtown, Connecticut.

"Like families across our state and nation, we were heartbroken by the tragedy that took so many innocent lives in the Town of Newtown," said Gov. Haley. "We ask the people of our state join us in a moment of silence as we lift up the families of the fallen in prayer, hug our children a bit tighter and give thanks to our teachers for the selfless service they provide day in and day out."

Connecticut Gov. Dannel P. Malloy asked his colleagues to consider observing a moment of silence in their states in honor of the Town of Newtown's victims.
