Congresswoman Fudge on Ambassador Susan Rice Withdrawing from Consideration for Secretary of State

Statement

Date: Dec. 14, 2012
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Foreign Affairs

Congresswoman Marcia L. Fudge (OH-11) released the following statement today regarding the decision by United Nations Ambassador Susan Rice to withdraw her name from consideration for nomination to Secretary of State:

"Ambassador Rice clearly would be an outstanding choice to serve our nation as Secretary of State. I understand her reasons for withdrawing from consideration, given that a handful of Senators continue to level unwarranted attacks against her character and show no signs of letting up in the confirmation process. In her decision to withdraw, the Ambassador proved yet again she is a true patriot and a skilled diplomat. Opponents to her nomination have no reason to celebrate. Ambassador Rice's withdrawal from consideration is a loss to the United States and to nations around the world."
