Today, Rep. Richmond issued the following statement in response to the cease-fire brokered with the help of the United States, ending eight days of deadly bombings and airstrikes between Israel and the Palestinian militant group Hamas:

"I am pleased that the recent period of hostilities between the nation of Israel and the terror group Hamas has ceased. I regret the losses of life and am hopeful that the hard work to find a way forward can continue."

"I continue to support our friend and ally, Israel, as the leaders there work to protect their citizens from brazen attacks. Israel has a sovereign right to do what it must to keep the nation secure. As I have in the past, I will continue to support U.S.- Israeli cooperation to preserve and promote peace in the region as well as to invest in Israel's ability to defend itself. I am hopeful that Israel can once again begin talks on how to achieve a lasting and sustainable peace in the Holy Land."
