New Federal Hotline to Aid Gas Situation

Statement

Date: Nov. 4, 2012

Dear Friends,

I am pleased to announce a new federal effort to help get gas flowing in our communities. Gas station owners who have gas in stock but no power to pump it, or power but no gas, should call a toll-free Energy Department hotline at 1-866-402-3775 and report their situation. This will facilitate efforts to get generators and/or fuel deliveries to affected stations so they can open to serve the public.

Please share this info with gas station owners or workers you know. You can read more details about the federal effort on my website.

I also sent a letter today to LIPA's Chief Operating Officer urging him to prioritize re-powering gas stations as the work week begins tomorrow. You can read the full letter on my website.

In response to my advocacy, a FEMA Mobile Disaster Recovery Center will be operating in Southold at Southold Town Hall parking lot located at 53095 Main Rd. beginning tomorrow, Monday, November 5 and continuing on Tuesday, November 6 from 7 AM to 7 PM.

I encourage all residents whose home or business has been affected by Hurricane Sandy to visit the center to find out if federal disaster assistance may be available to you. I spoke today with the Regional Administrator of FEMA for New York and New Jersey, and she assured me that FEMA will continue to do everything it can to help Eastern Long Island recover from the storm.

My district office in Patchogue remained open through the weekend to direct my constituents to the information and help they need. The office will be open at 8:30 AM tomorrowat 289-6500 for your questions or concerns regarding the gas situation, LIPA outages, FEMA aid, or other storm recovery issues.

Please visit my Hurricane Recovery Resources webpage for additional information. Also, please visit my Facebook and Twitter pages for regular updates.

Sincerely,

Congressman Tim Bishop
First District of New York
