Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Steve Rothman (D-NJ), a member of the House Appropriations Committee, released the following statement encouraging Bergen and Hudson County residents to apply for federal assistance to help them cover the costs of damage caused by Hurricane Sandy:

"I was very pleased that Bergen County was added today to the list of New Jersey counties eligible for federal assistance for residents who have suffered damage caused by Hurricane Sandy. Hudson County residents were made eligible for this aid on October 30, 2012. I urge residents to carefully document costs they incur during clean up and repair, and to apply for aid as soon as possible by calling 1-800-621-FEMA, or going to http://www.disasterassistance.gov. Residents could be eligible for access to direct services and financial help of up to $31,900 to cover the cost of repairing, or replacing a home, temporary housing, and other expenses like medical care, transportation, personal item damage, fuel, etc. As always, please do not hesitate to reach out to me if I can be of help. You can reach my Washington, D.C. office at (202) 225-5061."
