Working to Build a Better and Brighter Future for America

Statement

While the national unemployment rate has improved slightly, millions of Americans continue to struggle to find work and millions more are underemployed, forced to accept part time employment because they have been unable to find full time work. Two-thirds of the jobs added last month were only part-time and the amount of jobs added in September is still 36,000 short of what our economy needs to just keep pace with people entering the workforce for the first time.

The American people are hurting. They fear losing their jobs and their homes, they are paying more for groceries and gas while earning less. Many are worried about the future their children and grandchildren will inherit and rightfully so. With the average job creation for this year even slower than last year and the net worth of the American family falling to its lowest level in two decades, it is clear that the President's policies are not working. Americans need an end to this economic uncertainty and they want to see a plan to create jobs.

That is why House Republicans have been pushing a pro-growth, pro-jobs agenda known as the Plan for America's Job Creators. This initiative addresses our economic challenges, fosters innovation and investment, and helps job creators without raising taxes on our working families or small business owners. It is a comprehensive plan that includes nearly 40 bipartisan jobs bills that have already passed the House of Representatives but are sitting idle in the Senate. From investing in America's energy resources to repealing onerous regulations, these bills will help lay the foundation for job creation. If President Obama is serious about helping the private sector and the entire economy, he should support these jobs bills and also call on the Senate to take action.

Nothing is more important to me than ensuring the future growth of our economy. If we are going to get our economy back on track, it is going to take Congress and the Administration working together to end the constant threat of out-of-control spending, new taxation and excessive regulation from Washington that has resulted in the worst environment for private-sector job creation in many years.

I am as committed as ever to the principles and priorities of limited government, low taxes, fiscal restraint and energy independence. These are the concepts that are going to create jobs and grow our economy and these are the concepts that are central to the Republican Plan for America's Job Creators. As your Congressman I will continue to pursue an agenda focused on job creation that is consistent with these principles and I will work tirelessly to ensure a better and brighter future for all Americans.
