Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL), Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee, issued the following statement on the Cuban dictatorship's municipal "elections" taking place throughout Cuba today. The Congresswoman also noted how biased some members of the press are towards the Castros that their articles actually call this shameful and false theatrical event an "election."

Ros-Lehtinen's statement:

"These so called "elections' being held today throughout communist Cuba are nothing more than a disgraceful sham to fool the Cuban people and the world into thinking that Cuba has a system of freely electing its public officials. But by reading some news articles you would think that the Castro regime holds elections where the will of the people is the rule of law.

This couldn't be farther from the truth. Anyone who follows Cuba knows that for the last 53 years the Cuban people have been subjugated to a brutal totalitarian dictatorship that oppresses and represses its citizens at the faintest sign of dissent. In the police state that Cuba has been for more than half a century, the only "law' that matters is that decided by the octogenarian despots that misrule Cuba.

These "elections' are yet another lie in a long list of lies, brutal oppression and crimes committed by the Castro family against the Cuban nation. History will judge them harshly."
