Issue Position: Why I'm Running for Representative

Issue Position

Date: Jan. 1, 2012

Although I've always been intrigued by politics, I decided to become politically active (along with millions of other Americans) about 4 years ago. I began showing up to Tea Party Rallies in protest of the bailouts and socialized medicine being proposed by our current president and being approved and implemented by our own Governor. I became alarmed by the ever-quickening erosion of our freedoms on a national level and on a state level as well. On the state level, I began realizing that every time our legislature met, a few more freedoms were lost -- usually to micro-managing laws that made a minimal impact on society and safety, but required an ever increasing governmental intrusion into our lives.

I spoke with my State Representative several years ago concerning several state laws. I asked him where he found the constitutional right to enact these laws. He just laughed at the idea that he should have to find the constitutionality of the laws he was proposing. Although he wasn't aware of it, the Arkansas Constitution is actually on his side. After researching our Arkansas Constitution, I discovered that practically any law they choose to pass that does not violate the Federal Constitution, is within the State's power. My representative also shared with me something I had long suspected. He said that the State Legislators felt obligated to present a certain amount of new laws, changes and regulations each time they met to "show they had been doing their job". These 2 facts means that our State Legislators can and will continue to enact numerous new laws and regulations every two years, not only because they can, but because they feel obligated to do so. There is very little limit to the amount of interference and influence they can have in your life. Without someone standing against these new proposals and proposing the repeal of old laws, more and more laws will be added to the books every 2 years, and more of your freedoms will disappear for the sake of some Legislator's résumé. For this reason, I have decided that it is my sacred duty to my children to stop the insanity of a government that has become like a snow ball rolling downhill -- growing ever larger and picking up speed.
