Issue Position

The state's biggest city -- its main economic engine and tax-revenue producer -- gets shortchanged in Frankfort. For example, it makes no sense that the just-passed state budget allocates two-thirds of transportation funds to parts of the state that contain just one-third of Kentucky's population. Louisville deserves a fair share of the tax revenue it sends to Frankfort, instead of fifty cents on the dollar. Jefferson County Public Schools deserve better than the major financial hit they took when the Kentucky Education Reform Act was financed. State money for bridges - to insure the free flow of traffic and commerce, in and through Louisville - shouldn't be treated as a gift, doled out grudgingly by Frankfort.

I am a lifelong Louisvillian and know how special our City is and enjoy watching it grow. I remember going to Redbirds games at Cardinal Stadium and look forward to taking my children to Bats games downtown. The Yum Center, waterfront development, 21c Hotel, Fourth Street Live, medical facilities, and many new businesses, restaurants, and shops exemplify some of the great things happening here in the River City. The rest of Kentucky needs to know Louisville better. I think many members of my Leadership Kentucky class were surprised to learn such good things about Louisville. We need to build the new cross-river bridges at Louisville, but we also need to build bridges between Louisville and the rest of the state.
