Issue Position: Senior Citizens and Health Care

Issue Position

Date: Jan. 1, 2012

The Bible teaches us to care for the most vulnerable among us. Mark takes this responsibility seriously, especially for those with developmental disabilities, the elderly and the sick. That's why Mark sponsored legislation providing senior citizens greater protection from physical abuse and neglect, and the bill to create a Department of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities, giving disabled citizens better access to services. Mark believes we should remove the barriers that keep doctors out of Tennessee. He helped pass important legislation that allowed more doctors to practice at St. Jude Children's Hospital.

Mark believes that Tennesseans are the ones who should choose which doctor they see, not politicians in Nashville or Washington. Politicians have no business interfering with a decision that should be between a doctor and a patient.

Mark's 3-step approach to Senior Citizens and Healthcare

Work across the aisle to get seniors and those with disabilities better access to the care they deserve and the dignity they have earned
Remove regulations that keep the best doctors from practicing in Tennessee
Provide doctors incentives to practice in rural areas
