Inhofe Introduces Resolution to Suspend U.S. Foreign Aid to Egypt and Libya

U.S. Senator Jim Inhofe (R-Okla.), senior member on Senate Armed Services Committee (SASC) and the Senate Foreign Relations Committee (SFRC), introduced a resolution today calling for U.S. foreign aid to Egypt and Libya be suspended until the President can certify that each government is providing a necessary level of protection to our U.S. embassies and personnel.

"When you attack an embassy, you attack America," said Inhofe. "Host countries have a responsibility for the safety of our personnel. Unfortunately, we lost four patriots yesterday, including Ambassador Chris Stevens, and justice must be brought for their deaths. The safety of our embassy personnel continues to be threatened. I've introduced a resolution calling for all U.S. aid going to Egypt and Libya to be suspended until we can guarantee our men and women are safe."

On Wednesday, following news of the embassy attacks, Inhofe called for Chairmen Carl Levin (D-Mich.) and John Kerry (D-Mass.) to hold hearings immediately on the lack of intelligence, security, and appropriate response.

Moments before he introduced the resolution, Senator Inhofe signed the condolence book in memory of Ambassador Chris Stevens located steps from the Senate floor.
