Slash and burn budget cuts don't solve problems, they delay solutions, and budgets need to be streamlined before they are slashed. The 2011 Legislature faced the largest budget shortfall in the state's history. The result of ten years of Republican leadership in Texas has lead to serious damage to our schools, medical and emergency care, and our emergency response systems and fire departments. The cut-only approach wasn't necessary in 2011 and won't be in 2013. The economy is improving, oil and gas revenues are rising, tax loopholes for special interests can be closed, wasteful spending can be ended, and the flawed business tax passed in 2006 can be corrected.
