Richmond Remembers Eleventh Anniversary of 9/11 Terrorist Attacks

Statement

Date: Sept. 11, 2012
Location: Washington, DC

Today, Congressman Cedric Richmond (LA-02) issued the following statement in remembrance of the lives lost on September 11, 2001:

"Today, we remember the 2,983 lives that were lost in the World Trade Center and Pentagon attacks eleven years ago," said Congressman Cedric Richmond. "From that fateful day onward, we as Americans took a sacred vow never to forget this devastating loss and the mothers, fathers, daughters, and sons who went to work or boarded their flights that morning and never returned home."

"We must never forget the sacrifices of everyday Americans who in an instant, chose to become patriots to the cause of preserving our safety. Today, I want to take a moment to remember the courageous passengers on Flight 93 who once discovering the terrorists plans to crash their plane into the White House fought back, selflessly laying down their lives."

"I want to commend President Obama, FBI, CIA Intelligence Officials, and Navy SEAL Team 6 for their leadership in holding Bin Laden and terrorist groups responsible for this atrocity accountable. On this solemn anniversary, we also owe a debt of gratitude to our brave first responders and service men and women for sacrificing their lives to preserve our freedoms and security. It is our ability as a nation to always come together in times of crisis and tragedy that truly defines our birthright as Americans. On September 11, 2012, let us renew our commitment to this day and forever preserve its memory in our hearts, minds, and prayers."
