Southerland Issues Statement on August Jobs Reports

Statement

Date: Sept. 7, 2012
Location: Washington, DC

Representative Steve Southerland, II issued the following statement today regarding the August jobs report, which indicates that unemployment has lingered above 8% for the 43rd consecutive month:

"Under President Obama's watch, the American people may have become accustomed to jobless rates above 8%, but we certainly haven't numbed to the devastating real life impact it is having on communities across the country. In August, the manufacturing sector cut the most jobs it has in two years while the overall workforce dropped to its lowest level in 31 years. Common sense tells you that this is not an economic recovery. I will continue to support a pro-growth agenda that paves the only path to a sustained economy recovery, by empowering our job creators, reducing onerous Washington regulations and averting crippling tax increases on small businesses."
