United States Senator Mark Kirk (R-Ill.) released the following statement on the 11 year anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks:

"Eleven years ago, our nation was forever changed when a senseless act of terrorism and violence cost the lives of thousands of innocent Americans. As we reflect on this historic day and mourn the loss of the nearly 3,000 Americans, we should also take this opportunity to express our gratitude to the men and women who have dedicated their lives to protecting our nation in the Armed Forces. We owe a great deal to those Americans and their first responder comrades."
