Throughout the country, cities and communities such as High Point, North Carolina, have implemented successful cooperative programs that have drastically improved citizen and police relations, and have significantly curtailed crime. These programs have lead to an increased volume of solved cases by allowing the police department to become more aware of the concerns of the communities they serve. They also empower citizens with the ability to make more informed judgments about the police department and law enforcement in general, by giving them a better understanding of the legal and constitutional guidelines police officers must follow in performing their duties.

That being considered, I believe that our district could also benefit by implementing a very similar program. One that would require significant community participation and would enhance current relations with our law enforcement. Ultimately, cooperation between law enforcement and the citizens they serve helps to create a strong, safe, and proactive community.
