Release: Rokita Praises Romney Selection of Paul Ryan as Running Mate

Statement

U.S. Rep. Todd Rokita (IN-4) today issued a statement praising Gov. Mitt Romney's selection of U.S. Rep. Paul Ryan as his running mate. Rokita serves on the House Budget Committee with Ryan, who serves as chairman.

"Today, we're doubling down on our bet that Americans still want the next generation to enjoy more liberty and prosperity than we currently have, by not stealing from the future simply to pay for more social programs now.

"By selecting Paul Ryan, Gov. Romney has demonstrated that as president, he'll be willing to defy conventional wisdom. This means embracing the so-called 'third rail' and telling the truth about the most difficult issues we face: our debt-driving welfare, Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security programs.

"I count both Paul and Mitt as personal friends - in fact, they're two of my favorite people, and I know firsthand that both of them are committed to tackling the debt crisis facing future generations of American taxpayers.

"I've known Gov. Romney well since 2006, when I became the first elected official in Indiana to join his team. And for the past two years, I've worked daily with Paul Ryan on the House Budget Committee. In our committee work and over numerous shared meals, we've talked about how to make this country great again by living within our means and returning to our constitutional principles. Today, Gov. Romney has put that mission into hyperdrive by making it the centerpiece of his campaign," said Rokita.
