Drive across the 36 counties of the Sixth District, and it's impossible to ignore the importance of farming to northern Missouri. In my own family, five generations have been Missouri farmers. The past few years have been banner years in agriculture production. We've seen records in yields, prices, profits, and land in cultivation. However, this success has not been shared by all farmers. There is much more we could be doing to level playing fields of opportunities. We need to help the niche producers connect with the markets open to them around the world. We need to remain on the cutting edge of agricultural research, understanding ways of doing more with less and reducing detrimental impact upon soil and water. And, especially critical because of our aging farm population, we need to find ways to help the young people who want to farm get started. When I go to Washington as a voice for the people of northern Missouri, this is what I'll be fighting f
