Today the Sierra Club endorsed Suzan DelBene for Congress. The Sierra Club's endorsement of DelBene in the 1st Congressional District adds to a growing list of supporters and increasing momentum before the August 7th Primary.

"When looking at the environmental and economic issues our nation faces over the next few years, it's more important now than ever to have leaders in Congress that can make a difference. Suzan DelBene is that kind of leader," said Andrew Lewis, Chair of the Sierra Club's Cascade Chapter. "Suzan is someone who will do more than just say the right things, she will deliver results on the issues important to the families of the 1st Congressional District such as creating a clean economy, addressing climate change and passing legislation to protect our air, water and wild places."

The Sierra Club is America's largest grassroots environmental organization with more than 1.4 million members and supporters nationwide. Since 1892, the Sierra Club has been working to protect communities, wild places and the planet itself.

"I'm honored to receive the endorsement of the Sierra Club. In Congress, I will work tirelessly to ensure our nation takes meaningful steps to build a new economy based on clean and renewable energy sources and reduce our dependence on fossil fuels and foreign oil," said DelBene. "With our strong foundation of an educated workforce, advanced manufacturing and a growing technology industry, the 1st Congressional District can be a leader in the emerging clean economy. I will fight for increased investments and policies to spur innovation and research in clean, renewable energy, storage and a modern transmission infrastructure. It's also critical we preserve and protect Puget Sound, our wild lands, and waterways in Washington."

The Sierra Club's endorsement adds to a growing list of organizations supporting DelBene, including the Washington State Labor Council, National Education Association, AFT Washington, SEIU, Sheet Metal Workers, Operating Engineers, Communication Workers of America, Aerospace Machinists District 751 and Teamsters, Joint Council No. 28. DelBene has also received the endorsements from a number of elected leaders such as Gov. Chris Gregoire, Rep. Rick Larsen, Ferndale Mayor Gary Jensen, State Rep. Ross Hunter, State Rep. Marko Liias and State Rep. Hans Dunshee.

Before entering the 1st District race, DelBene served as head of the Washington State Department of Revenue, where she oversaw more than 1,000 employees. Previously, DelBene pursued a successful career in business, working as an executive at Microsoft, and in biotech, technology and microfinance.
