*This session I called on the administration to make 2011 the "Year of Public Safety." As a result the state has undertaken a powerful initiative to reduce the intolerable incidence of domestic violence and sexual abuse in our communities.
*Improved traffic safety enforcement on the Seward and Glenn Highways.
*Provided Fire Department rescue equipment for Eagle River and Girdwood.
*Reinforced the Anchorage Police Department with equipment and training.
*Empowered municipalities to improve Emergency 911 services.
*Provided community development and fire station funding for Hope and Eagle River.
*Relieved court backlog by adding six new judges to put the bad guys in jail and keep them there.
*Fought domestic violence by sponsoring legislation making strangulation a felony offense.
*Made Alaska's sexual offender penalties the toughest in the nation.
