Bonamici Votes to Extend Middle Class Tax Cuts

Statement

Date: Aug. 1, 2012
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Taxes

Today Congresswoman Suzanne Bonamici (OR-1) voted in support of a proposal to extend middle class tax cuts, a duplicate of the bill passed in the Senate. She also voted against a bill that would extend all of the tax cuts, including those to the wealthiest Americans. After voting, Bonamici made the following statement:

"Today I joined many of my colleagues in voting to extend the middle class tax cuts to more than ninety-seven percent of Americans. Unfortunately too many in Congress continue to push to extend the Bush tax cuts for the wealthiest two percent. During the past decade, we have fought two wars, faced a recession, and started to tackle the debt and the deficit. We need to make tough choices that are fair to all Americans, invest in our infrastructure and education to support our future workforce, and protect the safety net for seniors and the vulnerable. Keeping tax breaks for the wealthiest Americans isn't the right priority for strengthening our economy."
