Statement from Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison on Texas Air National Guard C - 130's

Statement

Date: July 31, 2012
Location: Washington DC

The Senate Appropriations Committee, Subcommittee on Defense, moved today to maintain the basing of Texas Air National Guard C-130's in Fort Worth, at least until Fiscal Year 2014. The full committee is expected to approve the decision Thursday. Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison issued the following statement:

"This is another important step in preserving the strategic deployment of C-130's in Fort Worth. I have made the case that there is no military advantage to moving these planes from their current location and that building a new facility to base them elsewhere takes funds from other vital military needs.

"This legislation gives us time to work with the Secretary of Defense and the Air Force Secretary on a long term plan for these important military assets.

"The Fort Worth C-130's play an important role in disaster relief and recovery operations for the entire Gulf coast."
