Levin, Stabenow: I-94 in Berrien County to Receive $3.3 Million for Repaving

A $3.3 million federal grant will help pay for repaving of Interstate 94 in Western Michigan, Senators Carl Levin and Debbie Stabenow announced Tuesday.

The U.S. Department of Transportation grant provides funding for pavement resurfacing and reconstruction of the shoulder on eastbound I-94 in Berrien County.

"We can't grow our economy and create new jobs without the transportation infrastructure on which commerce depends," Levin said. "Improvements on this important stretch of I-94 will help ensure that Michigan businesses have access to quality roads."

"This is welcome news for Michigan businesses which rely on our roads to grow their companies and create jobs," said Stabenow. "Quality roads help businesses move goods, create jobs, and grow our economy."

The funding will allow the Michigan Department of Transportation to improve four miles of I-94, between Sawyer Road and Red Arrow Highway. The project will resurface the main roadway and ramps, replace culverts, improve signs and guardrails, and widen the shoulder. The wider shoulder and longer acceleration and deceleration lanes at interchanges will improve safety.
