Paulsen Votes to Slash Red Tape

Statement

Representative Erik Paulsen (MN-03), member of the House Ways and Means Committee, today voted in favor of a package of seven bills aimed at providing additional regulatory relief from the red tape that continues to burden small businesses, hindering their ability to expand, grow and hire workers. The package includes reforms that will place a moratorium on costly regulations until the nation's unemployment rate falls below 6 percent, as well as hold Congress and other Federal agencies accountable for imposing unfunded mandates which cause businesses to spend thousands of dollars on complying with regulations, rather than expanding their businesses. For example, it requires a cost benefit analysis of potential regulations before they are imposed, and streamlines the federal permitting process for major infrastructure projects.

"Small businesses create the majority of new jobs in our country, but recently one factor has consistently gotten in the way of their growth -- Washington. Minnesota business leaders consistently tell me that government needs to "get out of the way' so that they can grow and expand their operations, and create new jobs. This package of bills today takes the necessary steps to cut burdensome red tape and make federal regulations smarter, more efficient, and less harmful to our economy."
