Allowing guns on campuses is not the solution to our problems! We must reverse the priorities of this legislature which have resulted in Arizona being ranked near the bottom in both student investment and achievement. We presently allocate about $7,800 per student per year, while spending over $42,000 per prison inmate per year. Education does matter. There is a direct correlation between undereducated and unemployed youth and prison statistics. We are closing schools and building more prisons, in this, the richest nation on earth. We must reverse this trend!

In order for schools and teachers to adequately prepare students to graduate with a good education and meet the challenges of a global economy, we must immediately restore full funding to our K through 12 public school system, our universities and adult education programs.

I believe in public schools that inspire students, instill creativity, critical thinking and confidence through a strong partnership involving teachers, students, parents and strong locally controlled school districts.
