Issue Position: Defending Marriage Equality for All

Issue Position

This year has been a remarkable one for those who support marriage equality. The government ended Don't Ask Don't Tell, the President refused to enforce the Defense of Marriage Act, and states across the country have increased rights for our LGBT and questioning friends. I too support, and as a member of Congress will defend marriage equality. I understand that there are many who honestly disagree with me. I would remind them that marriage operates in two different spheres: legal and religious. As a legal matter subject to the state's authority to regulate, everyone, irrespective of religion, color, creed, race, or sexual orientation, must be treated equally under the law.
