Date: July 18, 2012
Location: Hartford, CT

Today Congressman John B. Larson announced that Hartford, West Hartford and Bristol will be receiving funding through the Department of Justice Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program (JAG). Hartford and West Hartford were awarded $200,793 and $10,613 respectively while Bristol was awarded $26,235 through the program.

"As cities and towns look to cut back and stretch their budgets during this difficult economic time, we must remember who protects our communities," said Congressman Larson. "Supporting our local police and providing them with the tools and resources they need is vital to protecting the citizens of Connecticut. This funding will help police departments maintain staffing levels and acquire the equipment necessary to continue the high level of work we have come to expect."

The Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program provides formula grants to support local governments for various criminal justice needs. The City of Hartford will use this funding to increase their police presence while West Hartford plans to increase their ability to analyze and review digital evidence. The City of Bristol will use the funding to purchase equipment.
